Shawn Hey U-nity, Living From the Super-consciousness “In What Direction Is Your Attitude?” “That old nest of negativism followed me everywhere I went.”  This is a quote from someone and I’m not sure who.  When I read it, I realized that even with all of my positivity, I still had plenty of negativity.   The quote came from an article seeking to help us in recognizing our unconscious negativity.  This isn’t about trying to make any of us guilty for our negativity.  Nor is it a new age way of saying, “Be Positive!”  It is just about becoming conscious of our negativity and how we express it in our body and our world. Observe your thoughts and your speech and from that you can assess what your expectations from life are.  What do you expect from today?  So many of us are bemoaning yesterday and tomorrow, we don’t even notice the good of today.  If that is you, readjust your thinking and your speech.  We don’t have to voice our upsets.  We don’t have to voice our projections just because we think them.   I have friends who protect their negative thinking by defending against a positive attitude.  “Don’t tell me to be positive; I have to feel my feelings!”   Yes, go ahead and feel your feelings, but don’t give out a doomsday report while you are doing it. When I was a kid, I got approval from my mother by criticizing the neighbors or anyone she didn’t like.  As a child, I had no idea how that would affect me later on.  I couldn’t have known how many people I would attract who were just like my mother and seemed relieved when I expressed what was wrong with other people and how judged they felt when I expressed what I like about people.   What direction is your attitude flowing?  In a positive or a negative direction?  When the topic of God comes up, do you feel comforted or judged?  I don’t mean if someone is criticizing you, but just the general topic of God and how someone is expressing their beliefs?  When someone talks about their church or lack of church, what direction is your attitude flowing? What about the subject of money?  Do your thoughts flow upward or downward? How about forgiveness…or even politics.  One might think they have the right to be negative about politics, but no, not really.  One can look for Light in that conversation as well and not have to compete in the conversation.  I’ve seen many a political conversation go south even when everyone agrees.  They bring people who aren’t even in the building into the conversation so they can argue with them while they aren’t there.   I suggest we find and develop a positive attitude so that we may know our God-selves better.  Let’s look for God active and present in everything and everyone.  I guarantee that if we look while being willing to see, we will see.   Use this technique in each event of your day, including looking into the mirror, your wallet, and your past.  Call forth the willingness to see God and your attitude will definitely look upward. Shawn "Living From the Super-consciousness “Just a Thought Away” Hey U-nity, Living From the Super-consciousness “Just a Thought Away” Everything we need is just a thought away.  The solution to any perceived problem is just a thought away.  The healing of a relationship is just a thought away.  The healing of our past is just a thought away.  The healing of our finances is just a thought away.  The experience of God, Life, Intelligence, Wisdom, Harmony, Peace, Abundance, Joy and on and on is just a thought away.   How shall I bring about the next RIGHT thought?  I shall do it through the right use of prayer and meditation.  There are those who say, “there is no wrong way to pray.”  They are wrong.  There are many correct ways of praying and many incorrect ways.  One MUST pray believing.  One must believe that connection to their Source is possible.  Do not tell God what is missing in your life.  Affirm that through God all Good is possible and you are willing to experience it now. It’s okay to want to experience stuff while you are in your body at this time and in your place.  Just don’t imagine that it will create your identity.  You already have an identity.  You and I are beloved children of God and we are the Light in action.  At the same time, if you want to know what it feels like to drive that new car, it’s not a sin and it’s not selfish as long as it’s not being used to diminish someone else.  Use the stuff of this earth to make life more fun for everyone.  If you have lesser motives in mind, you probably won’t get to keep it. Everything, and I mean everything is just a thought away.  What we want and what we don’t want is just a thought away.  Explore your heart’s desire and become open to the experience of it.  Prove the power that God IS right now and show your Light. Shawn "Equal In God" Is everyone equal?  I say yes even though it often doesn’t look like it on the surface.   I see clearly, that I have always had the same opportunity to go within and know God as anyone else has had the opportunity to do.  I see that I have always been able to see beyond every appearance even though what was going on at the time was clearly unfair and hurtful on a human level.  I also see that I ignored that for almost half of my life and it has take the other half to build up better habits. I came into Unity holding the thought that with my past, I had very few options in life except hope.  I didn’t have much of an educational background.  I didn’t have family connections.  I hadn’t had any inheritances to cushion me.  I had a relationship with God but not much idea as to how to use It or how to pray practically.   When I came into Unity, I found out that my past had no bearing on what God IS, has been, or ever was.  What God IS has always been the same and I can’t change that; nor should I try.  Many have attempted to influence me into thinking of a God that I ought to fear rather than respect.  I knew better than that then and I know better than that now.   We are all equal in that we are loved equally in God, and I have no idea why life is incredibly hard for some and seemingly easy and privileged for others.  What I have to hold to is that we are all equal in the Love that God Is.  If I don’t, I take on thoughts of guilt and shame and I begin to think that I am not loved and my hope begins to fade.  I have worked diligently for many years to remember that all beings are Good in God and that is not based on behaviors.  That is based on the nature of God.   We must interrupt the thoughts that we are somehow bad and that the world is somehow bad.  We must remind ourselves that the world is screwy because of our thinking and that we can aright the world with True thoughts.  Start thinking True thoughts about yourself.  Then start thinking True thoughts about your neighbor.  Keep doing it, over and over and over again.  If it’s not a True thought, interrupt and it start again.  Refuse to tell yourself anything untrue about yourself or your neighbor.  Let’s do that now and notice the difference we make.  Let’s prove that we are equal within God.   Glad to KNOW the Truth of Our Being Together, Rev. Shawn "Good Living Starts With Good Thinking…and the opposite applies as well" Everything starts with thought.  So, pay attention to your first thought and if it seems insufficient for the life you wish to live, create a second thought and create it consciously. Our first thoughts are often reactive and unconscious.  We know enough now that we must be diligent with our second thought at the very least. Our thoughts create our life experience and we want to have the very best life experience possible.  That’s why the second, third and fourth thoughts must be in alignment with Spiritual Principle.  If it’s not happening yet, your first thought will start to be the one aligning with Truth. In Unity we teach, “Thoughts held in mind produce after their kind.”  Notice your thoughts.  Are they bringing about Good for all?  Or is it hit and miss?  Remember, the “miss” is a result of our thinking as well.  Nothing happens by accident.  Our thoughts may not cause specific circumstances, but they do cause our experience of everything. Again, notice your thoughts.  Change them if they need changing.  Align with God in that You are Good and cannot not be Good.  The same applies to your neighbor whether you like them or not.  Align with God.  Align with Principle.  Align with Love.  Let these aspects of Truth be your guiding thought in everything. Shawn "Today I Welcome the Change" Hey U-nity, "If the Great Spirit wanted men to stay in one place He would make the world stand still; but He made it to always change..."           -- Chief Flying Hawk, OGLALA SIOUX  Some of us really welcome change.  Others of us are really uncomfortable with change.  And still others of us really want to control the change so that they can embrace it safely. Many will not let go of their old understanding of God, because its too dangerous to contemplate a bigger, freer God than they have922 now.  (“I don’t really believe in God, but I’m afraid to let go entirely.”)  Something I discovered is that the God of my understanding does not fit into a box.  Early in my studies I found that just when I thought I knew what God was, God went and changed on me.  God got bigger and bigger until God became bigness itself.  As hard as I try to limit God, It will not be limited.  It’s the same with defining Love, it can’t be done.  Life changes with each thought we have.  The world shape-shifts with each thought.  How do you think your keys suddenly appear in the place you looked for them a few minutes ago?  How is it that we think of someone and they call?  How is it that we surrender our thoughts and we suddenly know things we didn’t know before and the path to joy is suddenly clear?  Let us all welcome change and embrace the willingness to recognize God active and present in it. Shawn "Dinner Will Be Provided Today" Hey U-nity, What are you worried about not getting in the future?  For some of us, we are worried that we won’t have enough for retirement.  For others it is about getting too old for success.  For some, it is a fear of never getting to be loved.  (BTW, all fear is a form of not being loved.)  Sometimes, it’s just that we have to get to the store before the bargains run out.   Now, let’s look at this differently.  I will have dinner today.  Some will argue with me and say, “But what about all of the starving people who won’t have dinner today?”  (People love to argue away their good.)  Are you one of the people who won’t have dinner today?  Are you one of the people who can’t have even the slightest bit of Good today?  If you aren’t, then let’s start there.  “Today, my dinner is provided.”  “Today, I have clothing.”  “Today, I have lots of ideas.”  (You may not yet know what to do with the ideas, but we know that you have them.)  Today, I don’t yet know if they still have what I want at the store, but I know that I am loved by God either way.   If by chance, dinner is not being served this evening, LOVE IS.   Let’s affirm together, “The Superconscious Mind is awake in me now!” Grateful that God Is, Rev. Shawn "Live and Let Live" Hey U-nity, Have you been bogged down by your opinions?  Some might call them judgments, but to be nice, we’ll call them opinions.  I understand that we have preferences in life, but within our preferences, we have opinions (judgments) that are just none of our business and we are letting ourselves get waylaid on our journey because of these thoughts flowing through our mind that we would do well to interrupt and let go of. I have blocked people on facebook so that I wouldn’t see their posts and thus be judgmental of them.  I knew I couldn’t control certain thoughts about some of these people if their opinions were coming up on my wall and I know that my function is to love them rather then judge them, so I removed their postings from my sight.  Live and let live.  If people and I don’t agree about certain things, it is better that I seek God’s Knowledge rather than my opinions and fears.  The fears in me will only lead to limited thinking and I can’t afford limited thinking; I can only afford rich thinking. I had to learn how to let my family live and let live rather than trying to change them.  I’ve had to do it in a lot of places and with a lot of people.  Live and let live doesn’t mean people can be destructive without consequences, but it doesn’t mean they have to take up space in my head because I think I know them better than God knows them.  I have to pray and get in with a God-thought in order to see past my judgments and open to love.  My judgments limit all of us.  Divine Intelligence opens the way for infinite joy. Let’s open to Infinite joy by living and let everyone live.  God will not lose. Let’s affirm together, “The Superconscious Mind is awake in me now!” Amen, Rev. Shawn

Shawn "Change Happens…when we commit to a spiritual practice." Hey U-nity, When we commit to a spiritual practice, lots of changes take place.  Some are subtle and some are like dynamite going off without your permission.  New Thought writer Emilie Cady (Lessons In Truth) wrote of an experience we call “chemicalization.”  Chemicalization is what happens when we introduce new ideas to old ways of thinking.  Often our lives go SMOOSH in one way or another.   What is the spiritual practice you have committed to?  Have you committed to a life where you actually desire to hear the Voice of Spirit guiding you in thoughts of Love and Intelligence?  Or have you made the illusion of a spiritual commitment, but are still busy telling yourself and God what is wrong with you and the rest of the world that is revolving around you?  If you have done the second, are you puzzled as to why life is still so hard? That may sound judgmental, but I know from personal experience the difference between the two and I know that when I truly desire my relationship with God and as a God-being my life is easier.  When I assume that God is on my side and I am willing to follow the guidance for love, forgiveness, peace and joy, then I am confident that Good is present no matter what seems to be going on.   Now, sometimes, when I make that commitment to Love, everything unlike it appears.  People may become more erratic and unkind than before.  Suddenly there is a shortage of money.  My face breaks out.  My hair falls out.  I gain weight.  People I love get sick and people I love die.  Or I get diagnosed with illness.  Or, the person I hated the most wins the lottery.  They fall in love.  People I have held judgments towards suddenly seem to be happy when they don’t deserve to be happy…especially since I’m the one who made the spiritual commitment! Maintain your spiritual commitment and assume you will begin to see God active and present everywhere, including in places you least expected it.  (Like in the people you don’t care for.)  You will begin to see how your old judgments can’t keep God’s good away from anyone.   When we commit, or recommit, to a full-on spiritual practice change is going to happen and we must assume that this change is Good and “God is active and present in my own and everyone’s life.”  Become glad that you are suddenly awake and noticing how life is active and an event that affects everyone for Good.   Spiritual commitment doesn’t mean that life isn’t going to happen; it means that we will know what to do with it when it does. Let’s give thanks that we in Unity are making this spiritual commitment together.  We’re all doing it to different degrees, but we are doing it.  We have learned that it is safe to do it because God isn’t a whimsical old man, but a loving, intelligent presence, active and present in our mind and in our life.  Hold on to that thought and make the full commitment so that the full change takes place.  It is a change that is Good. Shawn "Walk the Path of Divine Guidance" Hey U-nity, Everyone IS Divinely Guided.  Not Everyone wants to walk the path of Divine Guidance.  If one fears not having enough, one will resist Divine Guidance.  The fearful being thinks they will lose if they listen and follow.  For some strange reason, fearful people think that God wants them to be poor.  Some think that if they are sick it must somehow be God’s will.  I say this to you now, “Cut it out!”  If your God wants you to be sick or poor or unhappy, you need a new God.   Pay attention to your Divine Guidance and notice how loved you are.  Notice the wisdom and good sense in a lot of it.  Listen and see how you prosper in ways that are bigger than the ways that you had thought.  Listen and experience wellness coming from within.  Listen. I understand how nerve-wracking it can be when you aren’t used to it.  Here’s what I suggest you do: “I accept that God is FOR me and all beings.  God is willing that I and all beings thrive in wellness, harmony and financial abundance.  I am grateful to realize this now and I move forward in spite of any appearances to the contrary, because I KNOW that God is on mine and everyone’s side.  Amen.” Walk the path of Divine Guidance. Shawn "Can I Laugh At Myself?" Hey U-nity, I have great gratitude that I can laugh at myself today.  I have stuff about me that is so ridiculous that the only thing that gets me through the day sometimes is that I laugh at it.  If I didn’t have a relationship with the God of my understanding, I wouldn’t be able to laugh.   I used to take myself pretty seriously.  I had pain and I thought I needed it to be seen.  The problem with that is the more it was seen, the less I laughed.  In fact, more pain came up to be seen till finally, nobody wanted to look anymore. A friend came along who taught me how to laugh at myself and how silly so much of  our serious thinking is.  Yes, lots of stuff happened “to me.”  But lots of stuff happens with everybody.  It’s no longer “Why me?” but “Why not me, and what do I do with it?” Laughing at it where I can somehow find humor in it makes a huge difference.  Look at life, see the silliness in it when you compare it to the Love that God is.  Look at what you take seriously and make yourself laugh at it.  Several years ago, I knocked over a glass of water on a good table.  I heard myself say, “Oh goodie, I was hoping that would happen.”  I laughed at that.  Suddenly it didn’t matter.  I wasn’t bad for knocking the water over and knocking over the water wasn’t bad.  I cleaned it up and went on about my business.   As I write this, I am thinking of some things I’ve been wishing were different and I have said, Oh goodie I was hoping …would happen.  I’m laughing now as I write this.  I guess they are different now. Hey U-nity, I was reading some sort of pithy book with wise sayings and the May 2nd reading is, “Our biggest misunderstanding is that we think we have time.”  It really hopped off the page at me. There are several ways to look at this.  Literally, there is no such thing as time.  Time is something we made up.  That is not how I choose to see it today.  Today, I am using the time we have made up. However, I am learning that we don’t know how much of this kind of time we have left.  I’m not looking to be maudlin here, and this isn’t to make us afraid of dying.  My question is, do we really have time to be afraid, to be resentful, to be sick, and to be afraid of dying?  Do we really have time to fear each other?  Do we have time to fear politicians, racists, and other confused individuals and groups?  Do we have time to kill till we get well?  Do we have time to hate ourselves until we love ourselves? Of course we don’t.  But that won’t stop us from trying.   Here’s what I’d like to know that I have time for:  prayer and meditation and kindness towards myself and others all at the same time.  I’d like to remember that I have time for fun and creativity.  I know I have time for forgiveness and I’d like to use that time gratefully.  I have time to grow older wisely.  I have time to stretch my mind and body.  I have time to say, “Thank you.”  I have time to pick up the phone and say “Hello” to people I haven’t acknowledged in awhile.  Most of all, I’d like to remember that I DO have time to LIVE and LIVE WELL. I’ve met people who have shown me this and I am grateful that I have taken the time to learn from them. Hey Everybody, I felt the need to reflect today and ask myself if I am open and receptive to all of the Love that is available and being offered to me.  I know that sometimes I ignore love and focus on what’s wrong or who doesn’t seem to love me.  I also know how great it feels when I have a realization that love is the dominating factor in my life.  Do you know those days when you know that you are ultimately taken care of and if you would just give up your doubts about tomorrow and your sorrow for yesterday, you could go ahead and be happy and appreciate the nurturing of today?  I do.  I know those days and that’s why I feel qualified to talk about this topic.   One thing I had to do was open to how love doesn’t always feel or look very loving but it still is love.  In my healing, I began to see and agree with the statement, “As God is FOR me, no-thing is against me.”  If that were to be true in my consciousness, I could not think of anything as against me.  I began to think about all of the things I thought were my enemy, (people, smoking, alcohol, my past, religion, politicians, the weather, my family, etc).  As I thought about these things I began to see that all of them had brought me to this point and this point is okay.  So, all of those things that had hurt me had actually brought me to a point of love.  Granted, I allowed myself to see it this way, but that is a very loving thought. It was wonderful to know that the facts of my past couldn’t have been different and everything just wants to serve me.  Everything can only serve me from where I am spiritually.  So if I’m living an existence of spiritual resistance, then a lot of what we call negative habits and behaviors will be doing their best to serve us from that place.  If I am deciding that today is the day I am loved, the universe will conspire to show me that…even though it might hurt a bit if I’m out of the habit.   Life wants to serve us and we must decide how we want to be served.  We are the masters and we are loved with an everlasting love.  Today, declare “I AM LOVED and I CANNOT NOT BE LOVED!”  Allow yourself to know you are loved within all conditions and then watch the conditions lose their power over your mind.   I AM LOVED and I ALLOW MYSELF TO KNOW IT!” Let’s affirm together, “The Superconscious Mind is awake in me now!” We are all loved, Rev. Shawn "What You Focus On Grows" Hey Everybody, Blessing is the power of multiplication.  So it stands to reason that what we focus on is what we are blessing…even if we don’t intend to.   Sometimes it seems impossible to focus on anything but the perceived problem.  So we rant about it.  We call our friends and advisors to talk about it.  We talk to ourselves about it.  We put our next good off because we are waiting for this last thing to not have happened.  What happens from all of this?  It grows.  In our minds, it keeps getting bigger and more intolerable.  And yet, no matter how many times we are taught to change our thought, we continue to hold onto this one as if thinking about it will create the solution.  Instead, with each moment that we focus on it, it gets bigger in our minds. We have an alternative and it will cost us.  I know that it’s worth the price and sometimes I am willing to pay it and sometimes I’m not.  However, when I look within and seek a new thought/a True thought about “this” everything shifts.  The price to pay is our bondage to limitation.  It never seems like much until we ask ourselves to pay it. I am asking all of us to remind ourselves that “as God is for us, nothing is against us”.  Let’s set ourselves free of all limited/victim thoughts and enter into the current thought free from the last thought.  Let’s focus on that and watch it grow.  Oh yeah, let’s do it.    Let’s affirm together, “The Superconscious Mind is awake in me now!” Hallelujah, Rev. Hello, Welcome home to Unity, Whether it’s your first time here or your thousandth, each time is new. Every time we enter our sanctuary, we open to a new thought and each new thought is the next beginning. It is the next beginning for a realization of Love, Joy, Peace and Harmony. With these aspects of God active and present in our lives we stand a greater chance of health and healing in our mind and body. We increase our harmony. We increase our prosperity and we are able to see our world in ways where forgiveness is available for all.
