Shayla is a Mètis and Nehiyaw Iskwew (Plains Cree Woman) from Muscowpetung First Nations and is a yoga instructor as well as founder and host of Matriarch Movement. She has always been a catalyst for Indigenous youth and women unlocking their full potential and reclaiming their voices and believes the arts, meditation, movement and reclaiming an Indigenous worldview all play a part in amplifying voices to bring upon much needed change. Matriarch Movement is a non-profit organization dedicated to highlighting Indigenous voices and providing wellness workshops to BIPOC women across Canada.Ashley and Shayla discuss her personal journey into yoga and the underrepresentation she saw in the community, her positive outlook and where she sees progress being made in the wellness and yoga space as well as where she still sees room for improvement, and ways to decolonize the practice of yoga. Ayurveda: Self-Care and Ancient Wisdom for the Season with Kathryn Anne Flynn

Overcoming Codependency, Perfectionism & People-Pleasing with Victoria Albina

I’m sure you’ve heard cliche phrases like “what you think is what you become” and “your thoughts become your reality” and while these phrases aren’t wrong, we often leave out a big part of the equation beyond the mind and into the physical and that’s how we speak. Jeff has been on a mission over the last several years to resolve the stories that have caused him pain and suffering and has seen first hand how language can help or hinder our manifestations. For the first 20 years of his life, he was a “victim” of the circumstances around him. He was morbidly overweight and allowed the  stress from family drug abuse, verbal abuse, and suicides surrounding him to manifest itself in the form of 120 pounds of extra fat on my body. Until enough was enough, and some much needed separation allowed him to step firmly into my own and say NO MORE!
