Secret Weapon To Get Higher Paying Clients

In this episode of The Building Freedom podcast, Randy tells the story of what led him down the path of entrepreneurship and helping other business owners grow their businesses. It all started when Randy got cut from his hockey at the age of 13, looking back he realized that this happened because he wasn&apos;t focused on getting better. From that moment on he developed a lifelong desire to continue to strive for the highest level of everything he’s involved with. Fast Forward 10 years later, at the age of 23, Randy knew that he wanted to start a business but he also knew that there was a lot he didn’t know about the industry so he began learning everything he could for two years until he felt it was time to get his feet wet. Right off the bat, there was a problem, he had no money. Rather than giving up before he even got started Randy decided to sell his Ford Probe GT. This car was his pride and joy but Randy knew that he had to make sacrifices if he was ever going to achieve his dreams. The first lesson he learned after getting started was that he couldn&apos;t do it alone so he started building a team and although it took a few years and a few bad hires, eventually he was able to surround himself with a team united under his vision of growth for the company. About five years into the business Randy hired his first business coach who gave him insights on how to operate the business in ways that he never imagined possible. Finding Time In Your Business

In this episode of The Building Freedom podcast, Randy talks about the labor burden rate and how most contractors and trades out there are calculating their true costs wrong because they don’t account for all the actions that they are taking but not getting paid for. To be able to charge the right amount of money for your services you first need to understand what your overheads are then divide that by the number of guys we have out in the field then add that number to their hourly rate and that gives you the labor burden rate.OVERHEAD EMPLOYEES + HOURLY COST PER EMPLOYEE = LABOR BURDEN COST Almost without fail every time a contractor or tread isn’t making money in their business it’s because they have miscalculated this formula and are not charging based on their true cost. Once you understand what you need to charge for the business to be profitable you then need to strengthen your client acquisition machine so that you have an abundance of opportunities in the pipeline, so that way if you lose a few deals it’s not the end of the world. Randy ends the podcast by tying everything back to knowing who your ideal client is. Your ideal client would be more than willing to pay a rate that allows your company to be profitable because they see the value you bring. In this episode, Randy talks with Jon TenBrinke. Jon is a co-founder of Black Jack Contracting, he’s been in the game since high school. He spent his junior and senior years doing two things: playing football and taking the first steps to becoming an electrician. After graduating he began his apprenticeship, got his license at the age of 24 there for making him the youngest master electrician in Ontario’s history.
