It’s bittersweet to say that episode 5-0 is my last one. 50 books - 150 takeaways - countless tidbits of information. I’ll be reviewing my own book, but I also share my new podcast rolling out called “Assholes in Education”. The podcast will be focusing on teachers, administrators, colleagues, and companies that are, well, assholes. This podcast will not be for the weak at heart, as I’ll be covering every type of person ranging from “do-nothing teachers who make their own schedules to make themselves feel important to pedophiles to drunks to the useless. I am not sparing anyone or any organization. There are some really terrible and superficial people and organizations in the education space, and I’m going to tell you about them. All of them.

SUPERreads Episode 48: Crucial Conversations by Patterson, Grenny, McMillan, and Switzer

Everyone could use a book full of educational magic and quotes to live by. Dave & Shelley Burgess put together such a book in 2014. Over 70 educators from all walks of life in a myriad of positions based in schools of various socioeconomic levels. This book will put a smile on your face. Check out my review of it.

Sir Ken breaks down the history of where we were and 8 chapters on where we are going and where we need to be. An asset for all administrators and those considering to go into the field.

Change in school is always hard, but technology infusion has made it harder. This episode breaks down the challenges of today’s learning and offers meaningful and achievable solutions to overcome them.

Epsiode 45: The Power of Unstoppable Momentum by @MichaelFullan1 and @MarkEdw22

Challenging students is almost a given in any school setting regardless of age or zip-code. This book take a unique angle in combating it by means of utilizing the whole brain for engagement purposes. There are lots of tips & tricks on everything from how to captivate in the long game to simplistic class management for the short game. This episode is certainly worth a listen.

Episode 44: Whole Brain Teaching for Troubling Kids

The 20time Project was pushed in 2014 for educators to embrace a meaningful, positive project that can have substantial change in our world. Initially based off of Google's moonshot thinking model, the book lays out step by step how your students can change the world. Connect with the author: @brookhouser

SUPERreads Episode 42: The 20time Project

Published by Corwin in 2021, the book takes a deep dive into trauma in schools. Trauma can range from parental arguing to living during a pandemic. Pew Research has stated anxiety and depression amongst students is as much as 70% during any given time, with spikes during points of individual trauma. This podcast covers tips and tricks along with solid reflection for the reader on how to grow, learn, and move onward during student or teacher trauma.

Some of the most brilliant minds in the country collaborated and shared their thoughts on why you want to go into education...and stay in education. This is not light reading — and should be apart of those studying to get into education today.  

Episode 41: Educational Foundations

 Episode 40 reviews the book Happy Kids Don’t Punch You in the Face”... what a catchy title...talk about a hook that gets your attention! Ben Springer published this in 2018 (Corwin) and focuses on “positive psychology” and how the use of it can help students and teachers inside and outside of the classroom. A great book for all special education teachers and administrators. Those going into the field should also get a copy. 

Episode 40: Happy Kids Don't Punch You in the Face

Hands down, this is my favorite education book of 2020. This book, written as a letter to his son, is as raw as it gets. Dr. Dallas Dance writes from the heart, sharing both positive and negative experiences about his career and life. The lessons learned combined with raw & meaningful advice is not oy essential to school leaders, but to all those ready for the next chapter in life.

Episode 39: Imploded YOU-niverse by @S_Dallas_Dance

This is, by far, one of my favorite books about educational administration. Why? Because the title speaks for itself! This book is LOADED with stories, tips, and how to live life in the big chair. Have a listen — and I’ll be you will be looking for the book afterwards.

Episode 38: What They Don't Teach You in School Administration

Nothing beats a fun picture book with a great message... and this is the epitome of it. Offering scads of scenarios on a bright note while laying out a series of scenarios, this is a great coffee table book for aspiring and first year Superintendents.

2020 will go down as one of the most disappointing and challenging years in a generation. A huge loss in the education field was Sir Ken Robinson, one of the most brilliant minds in education. I review Ken’s book and all that it has to offer...and that’s a lot. Onward!
