428 Holly Worton ~ Moving Your Adventures Into the Slower Months of the Year

I'm excited to introduce this week's guest, Isabel Firecracker. Back in 2019, I was a guest on her podcast, The Honest Uproar. I really enjoyed our conversation, and I've been wanting to get her on my show for a while. I'm very much aware that I wouldn't have the time to do all the things I've been doing (like training for ultras) if I had children. I'm very grateful for my childfree lifestyle, but it was hard to get here. Like many of Isabel's clients, I didn't realize that childfree living was actually an option in life. You may or may not be childfree. I have many friends who are, and I know that some of my podcast listeners are as well. Childfreedom isn't about disliking children or being angry at parents. Everyone's lifestyle choices are valid. It's important for me to have these conversations because I hope to save others some of the confusion I had growing up. If you get just one thing out of this episode, I hope it's this: having children is a choice. It's not an obligation.   About Isabel Firecracker Isabel was born and raised in Colombia, and has called five countries "home" in her 30-something years. I'm excited to introduce this week's guest, Doris Lance—a wildflower photographer who engages in nature bathing for the five senses. We had a fantastic chat about different ways to connect with nature, including slowing down and really paying attention to all the little details.   About Doris International hiker and wildflower photographer, Doris Lance's love and respect for the natural environment has resulted in logging thousands of miles, trekking below sea level in Death Valley, to over 11,000 feet in Patagonia, Chile to capture flowering treasures. The numerous discoveries of flowering plants in the varied ecosystems appear in her recently released book, Botanical Reflections. Readers have the opportunity to venture with her and record their day in words and pictures reading an inspiring quote, answering a pensive question, and completing a botanical illustration. 23: Sara Stafford-Williams, How to Stay Fit as a Busy Woman

I'm excited to introduce this week's guest, Jeff Le. Jeff is an ultrarunner who has finished four 100-mile races.   About Jeff Le Jeff Le has had a career at the highest levels of public policy and politics at the state, federal and international levels. A recognized thought leader in political advocacy and representation, his analysis and opinion-writing has been featured in POLITICO Magazine, The New York Times, USA Today, The Washington Post, FOX News, The Hill, Washingtonian, Roll Call, Bustle, Forbes, local and regional newspapers, and broadcast television in 30 states. During the height of the #StopAsianHate movement, Jeff penned an opinion piece that received national attention in POLITICO Magazine called I Thought I Knew How to Succeed as an Asian in U.S. Politics. Boy, Was I Wrong. that highlighted his experiences in workplace discrimination in politics and racism throughout his life. Jeff is now an executive leader in technology where he is Vice President of Public Policy and External Affairs for Rhino, a fintech startup working to give renters everywhere greater financial freedom through affordable insurance options. Prior to joining Rhino, Jeff was U.S. State and Local Public Policy Lead for VMware, a digital technology and infrastructure company, and managed the company’s gubernatorial, state, county, and local relationships across all 50 states and Canada. 425 Jeff Le ~ Lessons Learned from Four 100-Mile Races

I'm excited to introduce this week's guest, Courtney Clifton. We’re both members of this fantastic Facebook group for women runners, and Courtney recently posted a link to her blog where she told the story of a misadventure where she ended up going out for a run and spending the night on the mountain. I was really fascinated by her story, and I wanted to get her on the show to pick apart her experience and see what went wrong and what went well. Courtney made a lot of good decisions, which led to her coming out of the mountains in one piece, with no injuries. I think the more we can learn from our own adventures and misadventures as well as other people’s, the safer we will be in the outdoors. I hope you enjoy her stories as much as I did!   About Courtney Clifton I’ve been running for about a decade and branched into trails and ultras last year. I’ve never done an official ultra-race, since I truly enjoy route planning, self-sufficiency, and the research involved with plotting and running my own courses. She was washed out to sea while scuba diving and was rescued by a fishing trawler.  She fell and cut her head open while hiking. She drifted 5 km off the parachute drop zone. She rolled a snowmobile. She fell off a dog sled. Did any of this stop her? No. She continued her outdoor adventures and solo travel around the world. I'm excited to introduce this week's guest, Brad Borkan. Brad was recently a guest on the show on episode 370 when we talked about How Outdoors Adventures Can Help You Make Better Decisions In Life. Last time, we discussed Brad's book When Your Life Depends on It. This time, we're discussing his latest release, Audacious Goals, Remarkable Results. I recently read the book and I was fascinated by the stories of three men who set massive goals and achieved them—and in doing so, left a legacy that went far beyond their own lifetimes into our modern world. So often, when we're reading stories of historical figures achieving great things, it feels so removed from our own, modern lives. Brad's book does a great job of pulling real-life lessons we can take away from these stories. 422 Brad Borkan ~ Adventures in Audacious Goal Setting

I'm excited to introduce this week's guest, Cara Wilde. Cara has been a guest many times on the show, and this time we're talking about adventures with stone circles. Cara lives in Cornwall, where she's got several stone circles within walking or running distance from her home. If you've listened to this podcast for a while, or if you've read my book If Trees Could Talk, you'll know how important the Avebury stone circle is to me. But I don't really understand what goes on when I visit Avebury, so it's been great to have this conversation with Cara about how she works with stone circles, and what might be possible for me. Stone circles are a fascinating part of our history, and I think they're very much worth visiting ... even if you don't consider yourself to be a spiritual person.   About Cara Wilde Cara is a mystic, shaman and healer whose business Wild Bliss focuses on creating a more sacred planet one person at a time. Cara supports professional women who want to remember who they truly are, why they are here and want to express that as a body of work in the world. Cara left her counselling and more mainstream work behind her when she couldn’t use her psychic abilities or work with guides and began to feel as though she was working blind. She set up her own business as an EFT practitioner, started to use her channeling and intuitive abilities and felt like she’d got the team on board and helped her clients in making more significant and longer lasting changes in their lives. As part of her work Cara channels a collective called The Ancients and offers practical guidance and support specific to the needs and concerns of those of us who are deeply sensitive and passionate about creating real change in the world. Cara passionately believes that those of us considered misfits are truly here to create a new way in the world and are part of the Divine’s blueprint for a Heaven on Earth. Cara lives in Cornwall, surrounded by the ocean and stone circles. When she isn’t working, you can find her running the trails or curled up under a heavy blanket with a good book. 419 Holly Worton ~ Getting Through the Post-Adventure Blues

I'm back again, with another solo episode! This week, I'm talking about the importance of rest. As you might imagine, it's inspired by the last two weeks, in which I've been recovering from my 100 km ultramarathon. Most coaches recommend active recovery, and I'm certainly not going to talk you out of the value of that, but I just haven't been up to it—so I've been taking a break from running. My muscles felt great just a couple of days after the race, and so I went on a run a few days after. But I felt really tired the next day, and so I rested again. And again. And again. I'm getting back into running this week, but for the last fortnight it's been an adventure in rest. I originally wanted to get a nap expert or a rest expert on the show to talk about rest, but I'm not a napper, and the rest people I found were experts in yoga nidra and things that I also don't do. So today's episode is all about the value of non-doing, and resting by just not doing the thing that made you tired.
