Clearly the issue of omega 6 to omega 3 ratio has been a topic for as least since I started med school in the early 1990s, last century now.  This begs the question:  if it has been an issue for this long than why haven&apos;t doctors been doing the very inexpensive lab test that would show this, the omega panel?We&apos;ll I have been doing that and have been equally perplexed by the consistently lop-sided ratio in favor of extremely high omega 6. As a young doc I had assumed it was due to meat verses plant based diet. This has always been a popular topic: does the protein you eat increase your blood glucose levels. "Spike your blood sugar levels" is what is used by those who want you to fear protein and become hyper vigilant your diet if not neurotic. The relative truth of that statement depends on just one variable, and that is the amount of carbohydrates you consume.Looking back on this &apos;debate&apos; my only regret is that I was too polite, rather not aggressive enough in presenting what I knew was correct. Over a year ago I attended a lowcarb USA conference where Dr. Rob Cywes gave a talk. Can&apos;t remember what his talk was about but he a statement that the protein you eat turns to sugar. Did you know that the &apos;auto-pilot&apos; mechanism actually never indicates whether or not the plane is on the scheduled route. It only works by notifying the pilot that the plane is off course and needs to be corrected and gives the direction back to where it should be. but while it is on course, and everything is working fine, there is not indication that is the case. It is merely the lack of &apos;off-course- indications of warning lights and alarms that lets them know they&apos;re on track. Kind of counter-intuitive, eh?Yet it is very much how life works. When we are on track, in the &apos;ZONE&apos;, our focus narrowed to what&apos;s important to us everything is quiet.But sometimes stepping out of that quiet reveals something to us that we would not have ever realized had we just kept chugging along. This is exactly what happened to me when I worked at Starbucks. I got to meet people I would have never met, watch the gradual erosion of the youthful health, but the consumption of high sugar coffee drinks, or high artificially sweetened coffee drinks with chlorinated glucose called Sucralose, Splenda and all of the health deteriorating effects of both the high fructose corn syrup or the Sucralose. 171: What I Learned while Working at Starbucks that Made Me Go Back to Medicine.

Seems like in life nothing is a straight line is it? Except possibly looking back in hindsight and then you can see how things line up, how your experiences were additive and sequential in just the right magically difficult way.so it was for me, bankrupt, dying (certainly my wife thought I was &apos;passing on&apos;) grieving over family losses, and extremely in debt. Ouch!!I left medicine behind, simmering with an anger over why things didn&apos;t work out and disorientation as to what was my future. I did hate arguing with insurance companies over coding discrepancies, or explaining my recommended treatment plans for patient&apos;s other doctors. I wondered if the approach to medicine via appoints and tweeting patient back to health was really that effective. I thought I left because I was dying.I now see I left to learn more unencumbered by having a practice, or answering urgent phone calls or .....That&apos;s when I started ready about low carb living, Keto, an entirely different perspective on metabolic health, and what that required.  Applied it to me and was changed. Why hadn&apos;t I learned about this before? Realized for better or worse every institution has it&apos;s agenda however subtle or blatant it. My education was very plant based medicine diet wise.My time became consumed with the history, the &apos;science&apos; and the application of the Ketogenic diet.
