The real Kim Day says, fire yourself up and plant your flag

 In David R Hawkings book Letting go  David talks about the unconscious loss of freedom we impose on ourselves when we use the words I can't. Rather, David encourages us to ask ourselves a bigger question, Why won't I? Behind the bigger question lies our fears underlying I can't. I know through my experience of drowning in a capsized plane that I can't closed every possible choice I could of had for escape. But moving out of the victim mentality of I can't and into I will, cracked open a video of how to escape a plane that had crashed and overturned in water. The power of our mind is inescapable if we are willing to open our consciousness to our greatness. The bigger question is what excuse will we use to limit our greatness? in some way; as David says; we have some level of satisfaction in our self imposed excuses. David R Hawkings reveals why I can't is a loss of personal freedom

Have you ever felt horrified, heartbroken, frightened and helpless. It is said, that the emotions we feel are optional, in that we don't have to have our emotions derail our lives. But we are human! We have emotions, but consider sometimes our emotions make our problems bigger than they really are, in that moment. Like the, I can't do this phrase, when really it may mean that I feel overwhelmed, I need support, or I don't want to. I can't is a mis-labelled I won't. Explore the real reasons why we feel, and then do the things we do. And then surrender to those feelings and feel the releif flood your body, mind and soul. Life is a journey, our emotions can sometimes derail us, but that also becomes a choice. Dave R Hawkings gave me the answers this week, surrender. Be aware of your feelings, Stay with them without wanting to do anything, without resisting and allow it to disapate without engaging in any reaction. Letting go is a powerful tool. focus on the energy beneith the feeling. Not the thoughts around the feeling and allow the accumulated pressure to be released. I think of a canner, and that little pressure valave that rocks on the lid. We tool have the pressure release valave and it could be as simple as letting go. My reset Collective group gave me the same answer; isn't is there for us to witness time and again, the universe really does send us the answers we seek; surrender. Surrender isn't giving up, it is a active purposeful choice to releave human suffering. Move out of our own way, without needed anything external of ourselves. Lisa Wilson shares her deep struggle and recovery from thyroid surgery

Casey was comfortable with her success but inside she felt lost. She went through the motions and even thought she was following her dream, but why did she then, feel unfulfilled? But it wasn't until her parents said; join us in a foreign land, that she really started to understand, how sometimes we need to get comfortable with the uncomfortable in order to find ourselves and our life's purpose.  Why did it take leaving everything behind, to find her true life's work? After graduating from California Institute of the Arts in 2010 she worked as a Theatrical Stage Manager in Los Angeles, California. In 2013 her parents bought a house on the coast of Ecuador and the first words they said about it were, “Casey, if you ever come down here, you’ll never go back!” So, trusting in her parents' word, Casey decided why not leave sunny California (where she had to work 12-18 hours a day, 6-7 days a week to barely afford the high cost of living) for a country (and continent) she’d never been to!? The journey of becoming an expat in a developing country was a bumpy ride of self-discovery and personal development. After spending the first few years learning Spanish, working in hostels, beach bars and meeting people from all over the world, Casey was craving a sense of purpose. In 2016 she completed a 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training. Yoga had been a key part of Casey’s life since 2010 and in this training she found a solid foundation. Directly after the training, Casey became the local Yoga Instructor at the Montanita Spanish School for three years. Daily teaching and practice led to a deep transformation. Casey slowly shifted from an overweight insecure party girl to a mindful spiritual being. Mandy Gelfe reveals her journey and recovery from post pardom depression

Self care is so often lost on us. Why is that when it really is the support that we require mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually, socially, and professionally to be at our best. When we push so hard to maintain excellence in so many areas of our lives, what may be lost, is the care we offer our selves. The result is often felt in the form of dis-ease. Maybe you do eat healthy and get the exercise you need, but when is the last time you laughed or took a day to rest?  Maybe love is new and so romance is active and fun is at hand but is the same true when the honeymoon period is over. Are you allowing yourself quality personal time with your soul mate? And then there are the things that we know we enjoy yet we put those moments far into the future. I bet you recall having time with friends and family and saying I wish we could do this more often, but the words like dust bunnies are unattended and time passes. These are the truth we may face, that could resonate, but action is unactioned until time stops. Maybe it is an illness, possibly its a change in circumstance, a major loss. Does it sound familiar?  2021 is my year of no regrets and living in the present. There is no time left for waiting, no intended conversation turning stale. 2021 is a year of many changes. There are those of us that experience illness, lost friends or family not to many months ago. And in the absence of being together, I feel closer to the people I love, than ever before. I notice I take less for granted and find pleasure and gratitude in the normal. I am clearer about what matters than ever before. My priorities have changed. And that change included time for me. The truth is that I need to be at my best so I can be at my best for my family, my friends, and clients. I take the time for me so I can get up in the morning energized and ready to face whatever happens when the sun comes up. I do it for me because I matter. But it was not always like that and I bet this resonates with many of us. My husband is sick, and I needed a mammogram for a exceptionally long time. I had pain and it never went away and became a constant reminder nagging inside my mind. Yet I refused to make the call, what if I was sick? How could I handle that too? And I let month pass and the pass persisted. It took me looking at the facts of my self care, my self love. If I could not care me, then who was going to? It became very clear to me that I was scared, for sure, but the way I was choosing, was not the right answer either. Thankfully my results came back A ok, but it was a wake-up call. I once heard a saying, the way we treat ourseves, becomes the bar. For how others treat us. But more than that, it becomes the inside view of how we feel about ourselves. Do we matter, to our self. Often, we may not take the time to think about it. We all have busy lives, but I want to stress to you, that you are the only person that is with you for your entire life. And if YOU can not be counted on then what? I caught a glimpse of my self care horizon and I stepped up, will you?  I really hope you do because I care about you too. I was asked to speak at Freaking Fantastic Summit this week. It is short notice, but I am doing this for me and for you. It is a choice a powerful choice to share a message about self care and self love. The power in the share is enormous. And this one is for you. Self care

I had my head in the sand, but I didn't know then what I know now. I had good friends caring for a loved one traversing life-threatening illness, but it wasn't until I found myself in their shoes did I truly understand just how challenging caregiving is. In the past year I have found myself a regular visitor to the emergency department. Being the primary daughter for aging parents, I caught a glimpse of my worried look in a mirror. There is balancing act in caregiving, allowing autonomy while being an advocate, rather than being a control freak. It's hard to watch the people we love struggle. But I found it even harder to listen deeply to a life altering conversation and to keep my mouth shut, until the appropriate time. As my husband says, I got sick, not stupid! Allowing the communication between Doctor and patient to continue unimpeded is patient empowering. And even though we are a team and I had burning questions, I had to remain quiet and allow the patient first dibs at enquiry. This difficulty in silence drew my awareness to how out of control I was feeling. What to do about and how to handle this disturbed inner energy. The need to be supportive and at the same time to understand medical terms, conditions, outcomes and variables that were mostly out of our control. Then understanding that when one is not well, or is frightened, overwhelmed, tired and just feeling horrible, that their thinking can be unclear. And there is so much information to absorb, that an extra pair of ears could be valuable. This brings in the power of being present. When we feel frightened ourselves, how can we be the advocate we wish to be. It takes life skills in being present and that for me starts with breath. Making sure I'm breathing and then slowing my breath down. This action alone can reduce stress and engage the parasympathetic nervous system so we can relax and think more clearly.  And I believe in the power of advocates, but the advocate requires emotional discipline and holds the wishes of the patient in the highest regard. A patient wants an advocate on our side, supporting, listening, asking the right questions and rallying around us when we are not at our best. But what happens when we advocate for a parent of a spouce and our heart is breaking, when we may also feel in control. What tools are available to the care giver or advocate then? Self care is a good place to begin. Proper rest, sleep, nutrition. Keep emotions level by making notes, asking questions, planning scheduling, defining terms, organizing prescriptions; all cognitive functions; that settle emotions because our attention ion cognitive functions; and these processes take place in our neo-cortex. When all possible stay out of the fear zone. harder to do without some key life skills for reducing stress. I recall one of my first ER visits resulted because my dad had collapsed. We raced to the ER and braced ourselves for what seemed probable; watching the heart monitor that confirmed my father's heartbeat lagging 23, 22, 23, 21. Doctors and nurses buzzed around the room, and we were informed that a helicopter ride and a pace maker was the best outcome. As the sound of the helicopter blades faded away, we settled into the knowledge that there was nothing more we could do that night. Rising the next morning at 5, we jumped in the car and headed for the ferry that would lead to Vancouver and onward to the hospital. My sister and I merged from opposite directions, and a mear 24 hours later, we were all eating dinner at the table surrounded by friends. It might seem easy, but for months following that stressful event I found my hair everywhere. The stress had been very real and I needed to consider how better I could have managed my own emotional state. The next chance was already tuning in.  One month later, I had been to ER three times with Mom and another for my Dad, and I was becoming familiar with the drill. Looking back, I know this experience began to prepare my brain and up level my stamina for what was on the horizon. I would soon require a well of life skills and resilience from the moment my husband's pancreatic cancer diagnosis appeared. Picture a deep well filled with murky water, a compressed chest and difficulty breathing. Our harmonious life had just collapsed, and the force knocked us sideways. I felt out of control, grief stricken, numb and stressed, exhausted and sleepless at the same time. The only thing to do was to keep doing. What ever I could, clean the floors, do the laundry, even if it was clean. Add in all the dozens of things around the home that he used to do. Work was not in short supply. Sunrise broke through my eyelids, and the realization of a changed world would enter my mind. Fear and grief filled every cell, I felt anxiety all day, afternoon and night. I knew I needed to be present and that meant getting myself together. Daily, I worked on myself, meditated, walked, cried, watched comedies, practiced gratitude, held on tight. Around and through, I cycled through practices I had practiced and taught for years. And grace appeared inside a quiet mind. What I desperately needed now was to remain focused and keep my eye on the desired outcome.  There was no doubt we had entered a long and arduous journey. I felt like we were at base camp and there was a very steep and dangerously precarious path ahead. One that I couldn't yet see. And truthfully I needed faith because the road ahead terrified me. To lose the person I have spent more of my life with, was unthinkable, and yet we all know that this could be the reality. Every day was like the weather, different. One day I would get a flash of positivity and grasp for it only to feel it disappear again. Then, I would hear hope calming my panic, as the ground beneath crumbled. Some days felt like I was tumbling in an avalanche and I could get my footing or a breath of air. Today, I have a glimpse into what it is like to be a caregiver, but before, my perception was shallow, my voice and judgement undeniably inexperienced. I really had no concept. Within my pain, there is so much gratitude for those who support us every day. Gratitude for our health team, and for the knowledge we do have choices available for us. But the greatest gift I have learned to date is a deeper empathy for those that travel this road with me, that have endured the pain before me, and for those who may one day find themselves in my shoes. What I offer is strength, support, and comfort. The tools of neuroscience steadied my nerves. Self care and mindfulness add resilience. Can we really have empathy without having experience?

I am a Certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, AADP, Holding Space Consultant, and Certified Birth Doula, CD(DONA). I received my health coach training at Institute for Integrative Nutrition where I studied more than one hundred dietary theories with leading experts in the integrative health field. During that time, I also researched cutting-edge approaches to optimizing wellness through "root-cause resolution" of chronic symptoms. My background in healthcare has included a wide variety of settings, ranging from teen pregnancy, childbirth, Spanish medical interpreting, and working at a therapeutic retreat center world-renowned for healing trauma. My travels to Costa Rica, Hawaii, and Peru have inspired my love for traditional cultures and incorporating ancient healing wisdom into working with clients. As a healer, author, educator, health coach, and holding space consultant, my true passion is creating real transformation. Bringing the whole picture of a person's life into their well-being and re-igniting a deep sense of self-love. Holding a sacred container for ALL of their life experience, and discovering the 'pearls of wisdom' within that. This year of adversity became the turning point in my life both personally and professionally. Lisa Jameson is this quiet spoken lady with a big heart and passion for helping those in need. She found her purpose after hearing a difficult conversation on human trafficking. She now spreads the word so that others in trouble can hopefully find the help they need to overcome this horrific experience that is often under the radar and out of sight in our own communities. The Underground is one such organization that helps people that have been exploited and was started by a woman, Annmarie Boulay who is the head of our church’s women’s ministry. It is a faith based organization working with many churches in Bloomfield, USA. I got involved over the past couple of years, and been to several events. I have done some fundraising events for them and have been on a mission to learn as much as I can and spread awareness about the horrific trafficking and sexual exploitation of children.
