In this episode, I decided to bring together some of our more experienced community members to talk about the importance of Mentorship. Cyndi Nagel, Toddi Norum, and Nick Floro joined the broadcast, and all three are experienced mentors and have been mentees in the past. Mentorship makes a difference. Maybe even more so in an educational community like ours. And all of our guests shared their experiences with mentorship to emphasize the value of it, how to get it right, and what mistakes to avoid. In this Community Discussion, Luis goes over the 2022 event schedule as its currently planned. It's ambitious --- we're looking at about one virtual conference every month aside from our weekly TLDCasts. Luis also tried out the beta version of crowdcast on this episode. There are some nice upgrades, the interface looks great, and we're excited to see the final product. But it's not quite ready as the primary platform --- there's still a few bugs to sort out --- but it's getting close. So give this episode a listen to get a peek into what our 2022 is looking like.

Community Discussion: 2022 Event Schedule, Crowdcast v2 beta testing

We finally got an opportunity to talk with L&D Leader, Deborah Decker. Deborah has been a long time supporter and Member of TLDC, and this showcase was a fascinating conversation learning how she started in education, found instructional design, and made her way to her current role as a Senior Manger of Learning Experience at LA Care Health Plan, the largest public health plan provider in the US. This is a great listen, especially if you're someone that's starting out in L&D and wondering where your journey can take you.

In this episode, we talked to Rachel Chaeyeon Lee about her journey from being an elementary school teacher to now: A corporate instructional designer. A little twist to though; Rachel is still working with kids in her own tutoring practice and even uses her instructional design skills to guide these young learners. Rachel has been methodical about her career shift and there's a lot to learn here. She did many things right: worked an internship, completed some certifications and an online degree, and stayed focused on her goals. And Reachel still hasn't given up on her passion for educating children. Give this one a listen, we're sure you'll find Rachel inspiring and a great guide if you're someone also looking to make the transition from Teaching to Instructional Design.

The story behind this episode is John Labiento reached out to me to volunteer his services for anything that TLDC needed. And at the same time, I was putting together an event with BLOC Podcast host, Heidi Kirby, for Teachers transitioning to Instructional Designers. And since John was in that audience, the idea for a broadcast with him asking questions to Heidi seemed like an excellent idea. So what you'll find here is a list of 10 questions John has as a teacher looking to get into instructional design. And who better to answer these questions than Heidi who put together the program for our Road to L&D virtual conference. This broadcast could've gone on for more than an hour; there was lots of activity in the chat and several more questions submitted by the audience to add to those John had listed. Ian was a great interview, we talked about his career path starting in IT and now instructional design. We covered exactly what a Technology Instructional Designer is, why he is passionate about L&D, and even got into his interest in playing bagpipes. In this episode, we were joined by Heidi Kirby, host of the BLOC podcast, and an L&D Leader ... who is searching for her next job opportunity. Having recently resigned, Heidi talks about her experiences of the last few months, including why she resigned, what the job search is currently like, what's she's looking for in her next role, dealing with rejections and ghosting, and much more. In fact, there was lots of audience participation in this one; it's probably no surprise that there are many others out there that have participated in what's being called "The Great Resignation". If you're someone that has changed jobs in the last couple of years, or thinking about it, or like Heidi, are looking for new opportunities in L&D, this is a great episode for you.

I had a great conversation with Nadia Kader, an Instructional Designer and Coordinator from the Albuquerque Adult Learning Center. Aside from answering some of my typical questions, Nadia also shared her perspective of the variety of media she uses to support her professional development. Including some of the other broadcasters and L&D influencers out there that keep her inspired and progressing in her knowledge of instructional design. We also talked about some of her experiences working for a non-profit, which isn't a typical conversation we have here at TLDC. And Nadia also shared stories about her move from Brooklyn to Albuquerque, and some of the culture shock surrounding that.
