This conversation took place on September 13, 2021   In this episode I am talking to Mitch Smiley. I heard about Mitch from the comment section of a YouTube channel called Koncrete. I was reading the comments from my appearance on the show and one of Mitch's followers suggested to the host of the show to check out Mitch as a future guest on the show. So I did and was really impressed with what he has been doing since he was released almost 4 years ago. I met Amber when I started to seek out a community that felt the way that I did about some of the things we are facing as residents of California. Concord, CA Freedom Rally Interviews

This episode was recorded in November of 2020. * What made you want to be a guest on the "Nowhere To Go But Up Podcast? * I was recommended by James Saenz, after I was interviewed by him on his podcast, "From The Dust". * I want to get my story out there, the work that I do at my non-profit organization, "The Jeffrey Deskovic Foundation for Justice", which frees wrongfully convicted people and works for policy changes aimed at preventing wrongful conviction in the first place. We have freed 8 people, and helped pass 7 laws. * I also wanted to be able to help get the word out about the documentary short about me, entitled, "Conviction", which is currently making the rounds in film festivals, having gotten into 10 of them. * Here is my story: I spent 16 years in prison-from age 17-32- before DNA testing exonerated me of murder and rape. Upon my release, I have become an advocate whose life is dedicated to freeing people who have been wrongfully convicted as I was, along with pursuing legislative changes aimed at preventing those injustices in the first place. I started a non-profit organization, The Jeffrey Deskovic Foundation for Justice, using some of the money that I won as compensation for what happened to me, and we have been able to free 7 people and help pass 3 laws. As an advisory board member of a coalition group called It Could Happen To You, we were able to help pass 3 additional laws and we now have chapters in 2 other states. Lastly, I serve on the Global Advisory Council of Restorative Justice International. Since my release, I have become a recognized advocate, with a body of work consisting of delivering 200 presentation, authoring more than 200 articles, doing an uncountable number of media interviews, and meeting with many elected officials. In this episode I am going to be having a conversation with Jessica Moloney about her past relationship with an abusive narcissist and the struggles that have come from that experience. I reached out to Jessica after hearing her tell her story in a room on Clubhouse. * I shared my past as an abusive person and how I related to the story she shared about her abuser. It took me a long time to come to terms with my own abusive patterns of behavior in my past. #134 Can You Recover From An Emotionally Abusive Relationship With A Narcissist???

This podcast was inspired by my own journey, and evolution through life, and wanting to share my story as well as stories from regular every day people. I'm a single dad, Union blue collar guy, former drug addict, spent time in Federal and State prison for drug trafficking and fraud. I was released in 2006 with nothing but the clothes on my back, and a bag of mail, and legal paperwork. In 2010 I finally kicked a long time methamphetamine habit, and started the long climb back up the ladder of life. I'm happy to say in 2019 I have managed to navigate myself into a position where i feel confident in sharing my struggles and successes, in the hopes of helping others.
